Fall is Peak Season in Idyllwild

Fall is Peak Season in Idyllwild

The days are getting shorter, but Californians know that the hottest days can still be ahead of us. When the forecast calls for hot, hot and more hot, head for the hills. Those hot inland days translate to peak season for an Idyllwild visit. Enjoy fall color, shaded hikes, and evenings by a fire—all while your neighbors back home complain about the weather!

Hit the Trail

Cool, autumn mornings are the perfect time to take a hike. Grab coffee in town, and pick up some trail snacks, then head to one of the area’s many trailheads. Just outside town, Humber Park is a popular spot for hikers of all abilities. Head out on the easy, shaded Ernie Maxwell trail, or experienced hikers can take their shot at Lily Rock on the Devils Slide Trail.

For the most casual hikers, the Strawberry Creek Path meanders along the creek from Strawberry Creek Inn to Idyllwild Brewpub. Or stop by the Idyllwild Nature Center for a nature walk with great views.

Lunch on the Patio

After a hike, you’ll be hungry for lunch. Make the most of the weather with lunch on the deck at Idyllwild Brewpub. Refuel with big burgers, sandwiches, salads and more, with their house-brewed beer and a view of the trees.

On Saturdays, check out their Upstairs, an indoor-outdoor beer garden with small plates, soft serve and their beer trailer.

If it’s getting chilly, check out their shop for a sweatshirt and a six-pack or crowler of your favorite beer.

Idy After Dark

Idyllwild is a morning town, but there’s plenty to do after dark. Check out the event listings at the Rustic Theater for movies, comedy shows and more—their popcorn is top notch and they have a full bar and menu (plus cozy blankets!) to make your movie night special.

Enjoy dinner by the fire on the patio at Ferro, check out The Peak for weekly specials and live music, or grab some groceries and make dinner in if you booked a vacation home or one of the cabins with a kitchen at Idyllwild Inn or Tahquitz Pines Retreat

Peak Fall Vibes

One full day in Idyllwild complete, with fall color, gorgeous views, and perfect weather. Do it all again the next day, or swap the hike for a little shopping around town, or an afternoon by the pool at Tahquitz Pines Retreat (hint – they sell day passes!). Stay until the weather cools down, or head up the hill whenever the heat gets you down.
