Renting a cabin

These are whole houses and cabins, not rooms: each has its own kitchen, heat, air conditioning and parking. All eight are managed by Idyllwild Realty, which has an office on North Circle Drive in the village, and all eight book through the same online booking page. Pick your dates, then pick the cabin. Rates, open dates and check-in times are there too.

Picking a cabin

For two. Sugar Pine is a studio with a queen bed, half a block from the start of downtown. Enchanted Forest is a studio with a king bed, a jetted tub and a propane fireplace, a few minutes from the village. The Lookout has one bedroom and mountain views, and you can walk to town.

For four. The Hideout is an old log cabin with a river rock fireplace and a king bed in the loft. The loft is up a ladder and the ceilings are low, so it’s worth knowing if anyone in your group is tall. Kid Galahad Lodge has two king bedrooms, two baths and an Elvis theme it takes seriously.

For six or more. Be Pine and Copper Mine each sleep six and sit close to the trails; Copper Mine is in Fern Valley. Yesteryear sleeps eight, with a king, a queen, a full and two twins across three bedrooms.

Two groups, one trip. The Lookout and The Hideout can be booked together, so two couples or a family and the grandparents can have their own space and still share breakfast.

Walk to the village. Sugar Pine, The Hideout, The Lookout and Yesteryear. The other four are a little farther out.

Bringing a dog. All eight cabins take pets. Enchanted Forest, Kid Galahad Lodge, The Hideout and The Lookout have fenced yards, and Be Pine’s decks can be closed in. Our guide to Idyllwild with dogs covers where a dog can and can’t walk once you’re here.

Winter on the Hill

Snow changes the drive. The listings for Be Pine, Copper Mine and Sugar Pine say 4WD or snow chains may be required in winter. Check Weather & Roads before you leave: it shows whether Highways 243 and 74 are open, under chain control or closed.

Longer stays

Staying longer than a vacation? Idyllwild Realty, in the village since 1970, lists long-term rentals: apartments and homes to lease.
